About the Retreat
We hope that this will be a time of relaxation and fun for everyone. There are a few things that you need to know to make the weekend go more smoothly. Check-in is in the large room on the lower level by the soda machine. You will receive your room number and directions to the room. Linens and towels are provided by the Center. At the end of your stay, please put sheets and towels in a pillowcase outside your door. Also, remember to turn off all lights and the heater/air conditioning unit before you leave.
You may drive around to the back of the building to unload your machine and other things but PLEASE return your vehicle to the upper level parking area. There is limited space at the back of the building. The rooms on the lower level have tables set up for those who have brought sewing machines to use during the retreat. There will be NO saving of tables. It is first come, first serve. If you bring a paper bag to tape to your table for scraps, it will be easier to clean up. It would also be a good idea to bring an extension cord and power strip. The Center will have 3-4 ironing stations with big irons. You may bring small irons and ironing pads for your personal use and to Share. Small irons draw less electricity. Please do not bring large irons, use the ones set up at the ironing stations. There will be ONE iron designated for use with fusibles.
There will be several round tables with chairs for those who wish to do hand work. A TV and VCR will be available if anyone has tapes or movies of any quilting shows they wish to share. You are welcome to bring any tapes or DVDs you wish to share.
There are tables and chairs in the large room on the upper level for those who wish to work there. It has carpeting and food and drinks are prohibited in this area. Please confine your eating and drinking to the lower level. There will also be tables set up for the purpose of basting quilts.
Every Participant is expected to follow the rules set down by the Retreat Committee to ensure a more enjoyable time for all. If there are those who choose not to abide by the rules, they will be asked to leave without a refund. The Retreat Committee’s decision is final.
Meals are provided by the Center beginning with dinner on Thursday evening. These are served in the Dining Hall of the Center. Breakfast at 8 AM, Lunch at 12 Noon and Dinner at 5 PM. If you have any dietary restrictions, please let Dottie Moreland know.
If you wish to come extra days/nights (Tuesday-Thursdays) there is an additional fee. You can arrive any time after 10 am starting on Tuesday and anytime on Friday. We have the use of a kitchen on the lower level. If you bring food put your name on it and take it home with you at the end of the retreat or discard it. There is a table in the downstairs room for snacks you bring to share with everyone else. Everyone is responsible for washing any dishes/cups you use There is a Dry erase board in the large downstairs sewing room with the schedule on it as well as a job sign-up sheet. We hope that by sharing the chores it makes everyone’s time at the retreat more enjoyable. The dry-erase board will also be used is anyone is going to church, to a fabric store, etc.
There will be Show and Tell Saturday evening @ 6:30 pm after dinner. This is to show what you have worked on this weekend and also what you have worked on at home and want to share with the group.
In the event of a fire / fire alarm, everyone please exit the building via the nearest exit and proceed to the grassy area to the right of the building. The Retreat Committee will do a room check & roll call to make sure everyone is out. To facilitate this we are asking everyone to sign OUT whenever you leave the building/grounds and IN when you return.
