The Chambersburg Quilt Guild was founded in 1982

Currently, we have more than 100 members with skill levels ranging from beginner to expert.

Our members come from Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio, New Jersey and New York.

We recently celebrated our 40th anniversary in 2022. See the Booklet here.

Meetings

We meet on the second Saturday of the month from September to May at the Franklin County 11/30 Visitors Center, Community Room Second Level, 15 S Main St, in Chambersburg, PA (Click Here for directions) in Chambersburg.

Our meetings include lectures by nationally known teachers, lectures by our own talented members, trunk shows, a Christmas Tea, a Grand Feast, and social time to develop new relationships and friends.

Our bylaws require the Guild to hold four board meetings per fiscal year. All Board Members and Committee Chairs should attend.  All members are welcome. Board meetings are held at the 11/30 Visitors Center or on Zoom at 10 am before the September, December, and March guild meetings.  A joint board meeting is scheduled in June.   Additional board meetings are scheduled as needed.

As an Incorporated organization, the Chambersburg Quilt Guild operates under a set of bylaws.  Copies of the current by-laws are always available from the president on request and in the Download Menu.

The Bee Line

The Chambersburg Quilt Guild newsletter, “The Bee Line” is published before each meeting.  This newsletter updates guild members on news and information about guild activities.  To access newsletter, you must be a paying member. Any member may submit news or articles of interest.  Items for submission should be sent to the editor by the 20th of each month for the next issue.

Guild Officers

The guild officers comprising the board are nominated each spring by the Nominating Committee and approved by the membership in April.  The current list of board positions and incumbents is published in each edition of The Bee Line and on the Web Site (Click Here).  The current Vice President becomes the President the following year.  The Program Committee is a 3 year commitment with the longest serving member as the Chair.

Guild Events and Activities

Daytime Quilt Bees are held the last Monday of each month, 9:30 am – 2:00 pm.  Volunteers wishing to host a Bee should contact the President for scheduling.  Details, including directions for the next Bee will be published in The Bee Line and posted on the website.

The Guild also provides multiple workshops during each year on many and diverse quilt construction techniques as well as tips and help with quilting processes. Upcoming workshops can be seen by clicking on the Events or Programs tab of the menu bar.

We also host two weekend quilt retreats each year, one in the fall and one in spring. These retreats are an opportunity to spend 2 to 5 days with other guild members just sewing, eating and enjoying the company of other people with similar interests.

Additionally, we plan a bus trip to quilt shows which are within driving distance of Chambersburg.

Projects

The Chambersburg Quilt Guild participates in a number of service projects throughout the year, such as making baby and doll quilts, fidget/touch quilts for Alzheimer’s patients, pillowcases, sharing our raffle quilt proceeds with local organizations, and donating member-made quilts to be auctioned at charity events. Members have demonstrated quilt making skills at regional heritage events.

Guild Quilt Show

Every two years, our Guild stages a Quilt Show to highlight the work of our members.  This endeavor follows our mission statement with the sharing of our ideas, knowledge, and talents by showcasing our actual quilts and smaller projects.  2021 will be our first year partnering with the Franklin County Tourism Bureau.  While using their facility, our Stitches In Time Quilt Show will also link to the area’s new Stitches in Time Barn Quilt Trail, allowing joint marketing and promotions.  Our Show will be scheduled during Chambersburg’s OctoberFest.  This Fall Venue will allow us to shine as the area’s center of quilting knowledge and talent.
